Setting Up Your E-mail on an iPhone

This tutorial shows you how to configure your iPhone to work with your e-mail account.

To Set Up Your E-mail Account on an iPhone

  1. If you have already tried to setup the account and failed or iTunes auto added it for you, just delete the email account on your iPhone and add it back, the iphone has known issues trying to update settings vs. just starting over.
  2. On your iPhone, select "Settings"
  3. Select "Mail, contact, calendars"

  4. Select "Add Account..."

  5. Select "Other" at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Select "Add Mail Account" under Mail

  7. Enter your name, email address, and password and hit "Save"
  8. You must now choose between IMAP and POP3, both will work but there are differences so you'll need to decide.

IMAP is typically faster and only shows what is currently on the server. IMAP only downloads the subject and a summary of the body,it downloads the full email only when you click to view it. If an email is deleted from the server via webmail or Outlook etc. it is also removed from your phone, unlike POP3. If you choose this make sure your main email client is set to leave a copy on the server, see note below.

POP3 downloads the entire email, which can be a burden if you have large attachments to deal with. Once POP3 downloads an email it is stored independently on your iPhone, so if it is deleted on the server it stays on your phone.

NOTE: If you choose IMAP and everything works but you don't see any mail or just one email etc, it is most likely because you have Outlook or another mail client setup POP3 which is deleting the email from the server when it finishes downloading. Easy fix, under settings in your email client/Outlook you just tell it to leave a copy on the server for a few days, 2 to 5 days is common. This way you can get it on your phone and Outlook. 9. Incoming Server:
    Host Name
First, you'll need to find which of the two host names you'll need to use by visiting mail.yourdomain.com in a web browser, you'll see either "MAIL1" or "MAIL2" on the screen.
Enter that in the host name: ( mail1.redolive.net OR mail2.redolive.net )
    Username
Enter your FULL e-mail address. (ex: me@mydomain.com not me)
    Password
Enter the password you set up for your e-mail account.

    Outgoing Server:

    Host Name
Use the same host name you used on the incoming above
Enter that in the host name: ( mail1.redolive.net OR mail2.redolive.net )
    Username
Enter your FULL e-mail address. (ex: me@mydomain.com not me)
    Password
Enter the password you set up for your e-mail account.
  10. Hit "Save" and the iPhone will now detect if all the ports and settings needed are supported and complete the setup for you. If it returns errors please call us.

NOTE: The iPhone will automatically setup your phone to use secure email over SSL which is the why we advise just deleting the account and adding it back so you don't have to enter custom ports for SSL. Secure SSL is not required but hey, why the heck would you not want your email encrypted on a phone right?
